As far as the FBI was concerned, the "Reign of Terror" began with the murder of Anna Brown in 1921 at Three Mile Canyon east of Fairfax, Oklahoma. In 1923, Henry Roan was lured several miles west of Fairfax where he was shot to death. A short time later, a violent explosion of nitroglyhcerine destroyed the home of Bill and Rita Kyle Smith at Fairfax.
